Comfortable Year Round
At only 3,000 feet elevation, you won’t need to get acclimated to thin air
or heavy snow in Whitefish. The climate is relatively mild year round.
Surrounded and protected by three mountain ranges, the Swan Range on the
east, the Whitefish Range on the north, and the Salish Mountains on the
west, as well as by Flathead Lake on the south, the average temperature
during the coldest month of the year is only in the 20’s. The wind seldom
blows so there’s not even a wind chill factor. And in summer, 85 degrees is
considered a hot day.
Water Wonderland
There are more than 500 lakes in the area. These include the 6-mile long
Whitefish Lake, one of the most beautiful in Montana, and nearby Flathead
Lake, the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi. When
combined with the Flathead River system and countless blue ribbon streams,
you have an abundance of water recreation, including boating, sailing,
swimming, water skiing, kayaking, rafting and great fishing.
World Class Skiing
The Whitefish Mountain Resort , host to the 2000 U.S. Alpine Championships, has been
rated as one of the 20 best ski areas in the nation. Adjacent to the quaint
town of Whitefish, it is one of the largest ski resorts in the United
States.

36-hole Whitefish Lake Golf Club to a challenging Jack Nicklaus course in
Bigfork.
Horse Lovers
Whether you own a horse or just like to ride, the opening of
Majestic
Valley Arena is good news for all horse lovers. Located just six
miles from Whitefish, the equestrian center features a 110,000 square-foot
indoor arena, a 65,000 square-foot outdoor arena, veterinarian clinic,
on-site trainer, farrier stations, and 182 permanent, 12 by 12 foot stalls.
